Private James McKinley

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present. The Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour lists him as 'trooper' in the North Irish Horse, living at Whitewell [north of Belfast], and a member of the Carnmoney Congregation.

James McKinley enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 4 January and 12 April 1917 (regimental number 2354, 2357, 2359, 2360 or 2361 – later Corps of Hussars No.71771). In January 1918 he embarked for Egypt with a draft of North Irish Horsemen from the Antrim camp. There he was attached to the 1/1st Nottinghamshire Yeomanry (Sherwood Rangers). He was still serving as late as January 1920.
